Amazing Beauty Uses for Honey

From an all-natural skin moisturizer to an excellent hair mask, here are the amazing beauty uses of honey.

If there’s a ranking of the world’s most popular superfood, honey would probably top that list. For centuries, this “food of the gods” has been celebrated due to its numerous health benefits and many uses. This sweet golden liquid is proven to help lower blood pressure, improve cholesterol levels and boost immunity. As it is packed with antioxidants, antibacterial properties, vitamins and nutrients, honey has also many uses for the skin and hair.

Helps Fights Acne and Pimple Breakouts

Honey could help in controlling these common skin problems because of its high antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Honey can amazingly help regulate the production of excess oil and open the skin’s pores to cleanse it from dirt.

To use as a treatment for acne, simply dab a small amount of raw honey directly on the affected area, leave it for 10 minutes and thoroughly rinse with warm water.

Moisturizes the Skin

Extreme weather conditions can be harmful to the skin, and if you’re looking for an all-natural solution to retain your skin’s moisture, a honey face mask is the way to go. Honey contains properties that help draw out and maintain moisture on your skin to prevent it from drying.

If you want to make your own moisturising honey at home all you need is 1 tbsp. of raw honey and ½ ripe avocado. Mix the 2 ingredients and apply on your face. Leave the face mask for 20 minutes and totally wipe off with a warm washcloth.

Excellent Exfoliator

Using honey for your skin care routine is like having an all-in one product as it could also be used as an exfoliator. When used to massage and deep clean your skin, the alpha-hydroxy acids found in honey gently removes dead skin cells leaving the skin looking younger and more nourished.

To exfoliate, cleanse your face and neck with water and place around 1 tsp. of honey on your palms. Rub your hands together to slightly warm the honey before applying. Massage your face going down to your neck in circular motions. Rinse thoroughly and gently pat your skin dry with a wash cloth.

Repairs Damaged Hair

Other than its fantastic uses for skin care, honey could also be used as hair mask. If you have dry and brittle hair, the last thing you want is to use chemical-laden products to revive your locks.  Honey has emollient and humectant properties that smoothens the hair and locks in moisture, making it an all-natural hair product.

If you want to make your own honey hair mask at home all you need is ½ cup organic honey and ¼ cup olive oil. Mix the 2 ingredients in a bowl and place in the microwave to heat for 20 seconds and then mix again with a spoon. Wait for a few minutes for the mixture to cool (do not use mask when honey is still hot) and apply the mask on your damp hair starting from the roots to the tips using your fingers or a paint brush. After applying the mask, gently massage your scalp in circular motions using your fingertips. Cover your hair with a shower cap and leave on for 30 minutes. Rinse off and remove with shampoo. Apply hair mask for 3x a week if you have damaged hair or once a week as a regular hair care routine.

With it numerous uses— for cooking, beauty, home remedies, honey should definitely be a pantry staple in every household. If you’re looking to get raw, certified organic honey, My Dad’s Honey could have it delivered from the bee hive right to your doorstep.
