Beekeeping: Another a Form Meditation

Have you had enough stress and pressure from your daily life? Maybe beekeeping could help you!

When was the last time when you were totally free of your thoughts—away from the shackles of answering the never-ending questions in your head? When did you last feel that you were fully aware of yourself—your surroundings…when you were just living in the moment?  

Many people nowadays live their lives as if there’s no time to lose— you do one thing after another, multi-task and try to accomplish as much as you can. Remember, our minds and our physical bodies could only take so much stress and pressure. You need to press that “pause button”.  

Meditation has been increasingly popular due to the many positive effects it brings to the whole being. It enables you to clear your mind, feel at peace and increase your awareness of the present. Plenty of scientific researches prove that meditation aids in reducing anxiety, promoting a good night’s sleep and more importantly, allowing you to live a more meaningful life.   

Simple meditation could mean taking a short 10-minute break from your busy schedule, getting into a comfortable position, clearing your head and letting go of any thoughts that will take you away from the present. It is also doing certain movements and positions, requiring balance and deep concentration.

But did you know that beekeeping is another form of meditation

While beekeeping could be an exhilarating experience to some, it could be, at the same time improve mindfulness and become a meditation exercise. 

Imagine being around thousands of marvelous bees, their gentle buzzing making you aware of their presence—their beautiful sound drawing you. A strong sweet smell fills the air and tiny wings flapping aerating the honey smell. You focus on what’s happening around you and you exist in the moment, making no room for any doubts or anxiety to cloud your mind.  

Beekeeping is a great form of meditation.

When working bees you must slow yourself down, your energy must be calm. Your movements are deliberately slower. You become connected with the bees and nature. Your energy and the bees’ energy become one—connected together.  

Beekeeping has in fact become a popular therapy for war veterans who are suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome or PTSD. Participants of such programs claimed that beekeeping has empowered them to clear the clutter in their brain. “The buzzing – it fills that void in my head where clutter can go. So, instead of thinking of the things that clutter my brain or the experiences that clutter my brain … I think of the bees,” says one veteran.         

mental-health facility in a suburb in Dublin, Ireland also integrated beekeeping in their program. Just over six months of the initiative, the quality of life of patients with severe mental illnesses had dramatically improved with beekeeping also boosting their self-confidence! How amazing!   

Beekeeping is definitely something that you can enjoy too! It could be a past time to help you take a break from all of the chaos. Be immersed in the sights, sounds and smells of nature—something that we at My Dad’s Honey have been blessed enough to do. Maybe this is the time for you to hit the pause button and “stop and smell the roses”.
